Dealing with Holiday Overwhelm

  • Dealing with Holiday Overwhelm

School Holiday breaks always seem like a demanding time of year. There are kids to keep entertained and the house to prepare for visitors. Or perhaps there is travel to be with family and so on.

There are so many things that you must focus on. You are left wondering how to approach dealing with holiday overwhelm without exhaustion and the inevitable change in your mood.

The key thing to understand is that we are the most powerful when we focus on the least number of things simultaneously.

We are most powerful and most productive when focusing on a single task. Focusing on multiple things in a short space of time spreads our power and risks the feeling of overwhelm and powerlessness.

However, the necessity to focus on multiple things is unavoidable at various times in our lives.

Read this article for more tips to reduce overwhelm while increasing the amount you get done.

To reduce the overwhelm, we need to ensure that we don’t lose focus on ourselves. It is so easy at this time of year to focus on the needs of others. Wanting to please everyone and to for everyone else to have a good time is a good goal. Please don’t do it at the expense of your well-being. When the last piece of energy drains out of us because we haven’t focused on ourselves, we eventually run dry, and that is when the real overwhelm and tiredness sets it.

If you want to survive School Holiday breaks (especially Christmas and New Year), remember that while focusing on others may be necessary and even beneficial, take the time to focus on yourself and what you need.
